Why We Opened

A Recipe Box, Kept for 75 Years

Tavola & Vigne began with two recipe boxes — one carried from a kitchen outside Lyon, the other from a farmhouse in Tuscany. Both belonged to great-grandmothers who never met, and both ended up, decades later, in the same New Haven kitchen.

We opened this bistro to keep those recipes alive the way they were meant to be eaten: slowly, at a shared table, with a glass of something good. Every dish on our menu traces back to a handwritten card, a Sunday dinner, or a story someone in our family insists on retelling every time it's served.

Three generations later, it's still a family kitchen — we just added more chairs.
